Seizure of Iranian Military Manufacturing Materials Bound for Houthis in Bab al-Mandab

Yemen Monitor / Newsroom:

A security and military campaign in Lahij (southwestern Yemen) succeeded in thwarting an attempt to smuggle military manufacturing materials and medicines off the coast of Bab al-Mandab. The shipment, originating from Iran, was headed toward the Houthi group.

The media center for the joint security campaign, led by Brigadier General Hamdi Shukri, a leader in the Giants Brigades (Al-Amaliqa), stated that the naval formation seized a “sea launch” yesterday, Monday. It was carrying a large quantity of copper wiring suspected of being used in Houthi military manufacturing, in addition to smuggled medicines.

The center explained that the smuggled materials were coming from the Iranian port of Bandar Abbas, destined for the port of Salif in the Houthi-controlled Hudaidah governorate. The vessel was manned by ten sailors of Pakistani nationality. It noted that the operation followed precise intelligence monitoring, allowing the naval force to intercept and seize the launch at sea.

The media center for the joint campaign revealed that this is the third operation carried out by the joint campaign’s navy in less than twenty days, as part of what it described as ongoing efforts to secure the coastline and combat smuggling networks linked to the Houthis.
