Marib Undersecretary to “Yemen Monitor”: Province Stability is a Shared Responsibility and Notables are the Safety Valve for Social Peace

Yemen Monitor/ Marib/ Newsroom:

The Undersecretary of Marib Governorate, Dr. Abdrabbu Miftah, emphasized on Monday that maintaining security and livelihood stability in the governorate (located in eastern Yemen) represents a collective responsibility that extends beyond official bodies to include all social and tribal components.

In an exclusive statement to “Yemen Monitor” made on the sidelines of a Ramadan community meeting in Marib city, Miftah warned against attempts by certain parties (whom he did not name) to exploit internal conflicts to destabilize public tranquility in the governorate, which has become a haven for millions of displaced people.

Miftah explained that the governorate has succeeded in providing a unique model of stability and coexistence despite current military and security challenges.

He noted that Marib currently hosts more than three million citizens from various Yemeni governorates, which places a double strategic burden on local authorities and social leaders to ensure the continuity of this model “in strengthening security and stability and addressing any disputes or conflicts that might be exploited by parties seeking to incite chaos.”

The Undersecretary called upon notables and tribal figures to fulfill their historical role in “reconciling between people” and resolving local disputes before they escalate.

He stressed that the cohesion of the internal front is the primary guarantee for thwarting any schemes seeking to incite chaos or dig up old vendettas that could threaten the social fabric.

Miftah added that the state of security experienced in the legitimate government areas of Marib is the result of immense sacrifices made by army heroes and the resistance on the front lines, asserting that “sustainable peace cannot be built without a solid foundation of security and stability.”

He concluded his statement by calling on both the host community and the displaced to practice further solidarity, move past secondary differences, and work with a single team spirit to protect the governorate, as it is the essential pillar for restoring the state and the wellbeing of Yemen.

Marib Governorate holds supreme strategic importance as it is the most significant stronghold of the internationally recognized government in northern Yemen—which the Houthis have repeatedly attempted to control—and a center for oil and gas production. Since the outbreak of the conflict, the governorate has transformed from a tribal area with a limited population into the largest gathering of displaced persons in the country; international reports indicate the presence of more than 190 IDP camps, making the maintenance of internal security a paramount humanitarian and political necessity.
