Hajjah… MSF Celebrates a Decade of Medical Support for Abs General Hospital

Yemen Monitor/Newsroom:

Doctors Without Borders (MSF) stated today that the year 2026 marks a significant milestone in the journey of health services in the city of Abs, Hajjah Governorate, marking ten years since it began supporting Abs General Hospital. This support has contributed to enhancing essential medical care and providing life-saving services to thousands of patients in the city and surrounding areas.

Since 2016, the organization has worked to support key departments in the hospital, including the emergency room, maternity ward, and pediatric wing, alongside the therapeutic feeding center, neonatal unit, operating theater, and surgical department. Additionally, support extended to the isolation unit and mental health services, which helped expand the scope of medical services and improved the hospital’s capacity to handle critical cases.

Abs General Hospital serves the residents of Abs city and a number of rural areas in Hajjah Governorate, where the health sector faces major challenges due to limited resources and the increasing demand for medical services.

MSF also manages a referral system for patients requiring specialized medical care, where cases needing advanced therapeutic intervention are transferred from Abs General Hospital to hospitals in the cities of Hajjah and Hodeidah, as well as hospitals in the capital, Sana’a.

The organization reaffirmed its commitment to continuing its support for the medical needs of the population in the region and working to ensure patients have access to appropriate healthcare wherever it may be, in light of the difficult humanitarian conditions faced by many people in Yemen.
