Digital Analysis Reveals Iranian Account Involvement in “Saudi Arabia Starves Yemenis” Campaign

Yemen Monitor / Newsroom:

A digital analysis of the hashtag campaign “Saudi Arabia Starves Yemenis” has revealed an organized electronic mobilization process that used the humanitarian file as a cover to pass messages of political blackmail and direct military escalation.

According to the monitoring analyzed by the Musnad platform, the hashtag witnessed a sudden explosion on February 16, 2026, within less than two hours, recording more than 27,000 posts and approximately 34 million views. This pattern of accelerated spread reflects prior coordination rather than spontaneous interaction.

The activity was also concentrated in approximately 100 accounts that led the publishing process at an intensive pace, utilizing a ready-made tweet bank and a unified launch time, which indicates centralized management of the campaign.

Geographic tracking data showed that the activity was centered internally in Sana’a, Al-Hudaidah, and Saada, alongside simultaneous activity from accounts outside Yemen. Analysis of their locations showed that some were linked to distribution points in Tehran and Shiraz, which bolstered the speed of the hashtag’s amplification and pushed it to trend.

The campaign coincided with an escalation in the Houthi group’s rhetoric, which shifted from political pressure to hinting at military escalation and the targeting of oil facilities in Saudi Arabia, in an attempt to impose economic conditions through media pressure and threats on the ground.
