Yemen and Germany Discuss Strengthening International Support for the New Government

Yemen Monitor / Newsroom:

On the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference, Rashad al-Alimi, Chairman of the Yemeni Presidential Leadership Council, met with German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul to discuss ways to support the Yemeni government politically, security-wise, and developmentally.

During the meeting, Al-Alimi stressed Germany’s vital role in supporting the humanitarian response plan, restoring state institutions, and ending the Houthi threat backed by Iran. He emphasized the importance of strengthening partnership in security governance, institutional reform, and providing technical and financial assistance to the government.

The talks also addressed recent achievements in Yemen, including the unification of security leadership and the integration of women into the government, noting that these steps enhance the effectiveness of counterterrorism efforts and strengthen state authority over territory and vital facilities.

President Al-Alimi also highlighted the urgent need for increased international pressure on Iran to curb its military threats, warning that any leniency toward its armed proxies would continue to destabilize maritime and regional security.
