France Conditions Expanded Support for Yemen On Successful IMF Talks

The French Ambassador to Yemen, Catherine Corm-Kammoun, affirmed that her country is among the most committed to ensuring the success of negotiations between Yemen and the International Monetary Fund (IMF), as a prerequisite for expanding its development support to Yemen.

This came during talks held today via videoconference with the Minister of Planning and International Cooperation, Dr. Afrah Al-Zouba, focused on strengthening joint development cooperation.

The meeting addressed the issue of outstanding debts and prospects for cooperation with the Paris Club as part of efforts to restore relations with international financial institutions. It also discussed support for the customs and tax systems to improve government revenues and build public administration capacity.

The Minister of Planning emphasized the government’s priorities for the coming phase, including economic reform, revenue mobilization, improving basic services, and strengthening institutional capacity within the ministry and the international cooperation system.

The French ambassador reiterated France’s continued support for Yemen, whether through bilateral projects in food security, health, nutrition, culture, and heritage, or through its active role in international financial institutions and climate financing funds.

The discussions also highlighted the importance of supporting the education, health, and food security sectors, as well as strengthening the role of national institutions in implementing development projects to ensure sustainable impact and achieve tangible economic stability across Yemeni governorates.
