UN: Houthis Agree to Resume Humanitarian Flights to Sana’a

Yemen Monitor / Newsroom:
Julian Harnies, the UN Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator for Yemen, announced on Wednesday that the Houthi armed group has agreed to resume United Nations Humanitarian Air Service (UNHAS) flights to the capital, Sana’a, during the current month.
Harnies explained that this step will allow NGO staff to enter and leave Sana’a, which is essential to ensure the delivery of humanitarian aid to millions of people in need within Houthi-controlled areas.
Last Friday, Harnies noted that the group had not granted permission for UNHAS flights to Sana’a for over a month, and to Marib for more than four months, without providing clear reasons for the disruption.
It is worth noting that flights to and from Sana’a Airport were halted in May 2025 following Israeli airstrikes that resulted in the destruction of eight civilian aircraft. Furthermore, in January 2026, the United Nations warned of a worsening humanitarian crisis in Yemen as the new year began.
