Yemen and Somalia Discuss Expanding Security Cooperation and Securing the Red Sea

Yemen Monitor / Newsroom:

Yemen’s Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mustafa Noman, discussed with Somalia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Abdisalam Abdi, mechanisms for developing security coordination between the two countries. The talks took place during a meeting on the sidelines of the second meeting of Arab and Indian foreign ministers, held in the Indian capital, New Delhi.

The meeting addressed a number of issues related to regional security, foremost among them the challenges of combating smuggling and irregular migration, in addition to ways to enhance joint cooperation to protect vital maritime corridors—particularly Bab al-Mandab Strait and the Red Sea—in a manner that contributes to supporting regional stability.

Both sides emphasized the importance of intensifying coordination and information-sharing to confront cross-border threats, stressing the need to respect state sovereignty and to reject any external interventions that could undermine security or infringe upon the territorial unity of Yemen, Somalia, and countries in the region.
