Attorney General Opens Investigation into Treason and Damage to Military Status Against Aidarous Al-Zubaidi

Yemen Monitor / Newsroom:
The Attorney General of the Republic of Yemen, Judge Qaher Mustafa, has issued a decree to form a special investigative committee to examine the charges brought against Major General Aidarous Al-Zubaidi. The committee is chaired by the First Prosecutor General, Judge Fawzi Ali Saif Saeed, and includes several senior officials from the Public Prosecution.
According to the decree, the committee has been granted full legal powers to summon and arrest individuals and gather evidence. It is mandated to complete its tasks swiftly and submit periodic reports on the investigation’s findings.
The final paragraph of the decree focuses on grave allegations; the committee will investigate Major General Aidarous Qassem Al-Zubaidi on counts of High Treason with the intent of undermining the Republic’s independence and damaging its military, political, and economic status. Additionally, the charges include forming an armed gang and committing murder against officers and soldiers of the Armed Forces.
The list of accusations also encompasses:
- Exploiting and damaging the “Southern Issue.”
- Committing gross violations against civilians.
- Sabotaging military facilities and sites.
- Assaulting the Constitution and constitutional authorities.
- Violating laws and infringing upon the country’s sovereignty and independence.
This legal action follows the announcement last Friday by the Southern Transitional Council (STC)—formerly headed by Al-Zubaidi—that it has dissolved itself, along with all its primary and subsidiary bodies and the closure of its domestic and international offices.
The dissolution of the Council and these legal proceedings come after a turbulent week that began with the STC’s escalation in Hadramawt and Al-Mahrah, reaching the borders of Oman and Saudi Arabia. This was followed by their military defeat at the hands of government forces, supported by Saudi Arabia, which eventually led to the flight of Aidarous Al-Zubaidi to the United Arab Emirates.
