Shura Council Chairman Discusses Supporting Peace and Stability in Yemen with EU Ambassador

The Chairman of the Yemeni Shura Council, Dr. Ahmed Obaid bin Daghr, met today with the Ambassador of the EU to Yemen, Patrick Simonnet, to discuss the latest developments in Yemen and international efforts aimed at supporting peace and stability.

The meeting, attended by Deputy Chairman of the Shura Council Engineer Wahī Amān, addressed the developments in the liberated governorates, particularly Hadramawt and Al-Mahrah, as well as the efforts of the Presidential Leadership Council and the government to normalize security and service conditions and restore normal life to the regions after years of conflict.

The two sides also discussed ways to enhance cooperation between Yemen and the EU in humanitarian, developmental, and political fields, to support the legitimate government and local community in achieving peace and rebuilding the state and its institutions.

Dr. bin Daghr emphasized the vital role of the Arab coalition led by Saudi Arabia in protecting civilians and preserving Yemen’s unity, praising its hosting of the Southern-Southern Dialogue Conference as a platform to promote dialogue and find just solutions for the southern issue within the framework of national unity.

He stressed the importance of continued international support to reach comprehensive solutions based on agreed-upon references, including the Gulf Initiative and the outcomes of the National Dialogue Conference.

For his part, Ambassador Patrick Simonnet affirmed the European Union’s support for the Presidential Leadership Council and its commitment to Yemen’s unity and territorial integrity, while continuing cooperation to enhance peace and development efforts.

The meeting was attended by Shura Council members Sheikh Alawi Al-Basha and Issam Shuraim, Deputy EU Ambassador Louis Pionno, and the Office Director of the Council Chairman, Hussein Ahmed Obaid.
