Kuwait Praises Call for Southern Dialogue Conference in Riyadh and Urges Dialogue

Yemen Monitor / Newsroom:
Kuwait announced that it is monitoring the recent developments in the sisterly Republic of Yemen and the current political and military updates that threaten the unity of the Yemeni people and undermine their security and stability.
Kuwait affirmed its full commitment to the establishment of security and stability in Yemen, calling on all Yemeni brothers to exercise calm and engage in dialogue as the ideal way to maintain the unity of the Yemeni ranks and enhance stability.
In the same context, it praised the request made by His Excellency the Chairman of the Presidential Leadership Council of the Republic of Yemen to call for a comprehensive conference in the city of Riyadh, with the participation of various Southern components. It considered this step a reflection of the commitment to unifying ranks and promoting constructive dialogue.
Kuwait also called on all concerned parties to participate positively and effectively in the conference, praising the sisterly Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s responsiveness in hosting this conference and its supportive role in efforts to achieve security and stability in Yemen.
Saudi Arabia had previously welcomed the request of the Yemeni Presidential Leadership Council to host a conference in Riyadh aimed at resolving the crisis in southern Yemen and bringing together all Southern components.
In a statement, the Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs called on “all Southern components to participate effectively in the conference to find a comprehensive vision for just solutions to the Southern issue that meets the legitimate aspirations of Southerners.”
Early Saturday, the Yemeni News Agency (SABA) reported that the Chairman of the Yemeni Presidential Leadership Council had submitted a request to the Kingdom to host a conference to resolve the crisis in the South.
The agency quoted Al-Alimi as saying that he hopes the conference will include all Southern components, forces, and figures without exception, including the STC, “in a way that expresses the diversity and pluralism of the South, and prevents exclusion or marginalization and the repetition of past grievances.”
He stressed that the solution to the Southern issue cannot be the monopoly of any specific party or component, nor can it be reduced to unilateral measures.
Yesterday, Friday, the President of the STC in Yemen, Aidarous al-Zubaidi, announced the start of a two-year transitional period followed by a referendum on Southern independence.
