Yemeni PLC Member: STC Movements are an Explicit Rebellion Against Legitimacy and a Dangerous Gamble Threatening the Country
Yemen Monitor / Newsroom:
Abdullah Al-Alimi, a member of the Presidential Leadership Council (PLC), stated that Yemen is passing through a pivotal and sensitive phase. He warned of the danger of the unilateral measures carried out by the Southern Transitional Council (STC) over the past weeks, asserting that they go beyond the scope of political disagreements or administrative interpretations.
In a post on the “X” platform, Al-Alimi explained that these movements represent “an explicit rebellion against legitimacy and a direct departure from national consensus.” He noted that they pose a clear challenge to the efforts being made to de-escalate and contain the repercussions at a time when the country is fighting a decisive battle to restore the state and end the Houthi coup.
He pointed out that attempts to impose a fait accompli by force in the governorates of Hadramout and Al-Mahrah—and before them Shabwa—and the seizure of state institutions using weapons, constitute a dangerous adventure that could push the country toward chaos, weaken state institutions, and ultimately serve the Houthi coup project.
Al-Alimi affirmed that the “Southern Issue” is a “just, significant, and central cause.” However, he stressed that it must not be used as an excuse for hegemony, a cover to monopolize representation, or a means to break the state. He remarked: “Just causes are protected with wisdom and responsibility, not through posturing and losing gambles.”
The PLC member praised the clear stance and firm efforts exerted by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, in coordination with the United Arab Emirates, to prevent a slide into further tension, protect stability, maintain unity, and enhance the role of state institutions.
Al-Alimi concluded his post by calling on the Southern Transitional Council to prioritize the voice of wisdom and reason, immediately reverse all escalatory steps, and commit to legitimacy and its foundational references. He warned that persisting in this approach will not serve the interests of the South or Yemen and will lead to dangerous outcomes for which no party can bear the consequences.
