Yemeni Presidency Requests Coalition Take Urgent Military Measures to Protect Civilians and Enforce Ceasefire in Hadramawt

Yemen Monitor/ Newsroom:

A source in the Yemeni government confirmed that President Rashad Mohammed al-Alimi, Chairman of the Presidential Leadership Council and Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, has directed a request to the forces of the Coalition to Support Legitimacy in Yemen to take all necessary military measures to protect innocent civilians in Hadramawt  province, support the armed forces in enforcing a ceasefire, and safeguard the Saudi-Emirati mediation efforts aimed at ending the escalation and restoring stability.

The source, reported by the official Yemeni News Agency, stated that President al-Alimi, along with several members of the Presidential Leadership Council and the National Defense Council, were briefed on the developments of the security and military situation in Hadramawt  province. This includes the hostile military operations carried out by the Southern Transitional Council (STC) in recent hours, accompanied by severe violations against civilians.

The source indicated that this ongoing escalation since the beginning of the current month represents a clear violation of the references of the transitional phase, foremost among them the Power Transfer Declaration and the Riyadh Agreement. It also constitutes a direct undermining of the mediation efforts led by brothers in Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, aimed at de-escalation and the withdrawal of STC forces from Hadramawt and Al-Mahra provinces.

The source affirmed that the government reiterates its full support for the Saudi-Emirati mediation, stressing the necessity of the STC forces’ withdrawal from the two provinces and the handover of camps to the Homeland Shield Forces and local authorities. This would ensure the restoration of security and stability and strengthen the authority of the state and its legitimate institutions.

According to the source, President al-Alimi renewed his call to the leadership of the STC to prioritize the public interest of the Yemeni people and national unity, and to refrain from continuing the unjustified escalation in the eastern provinces. He warned of the serious repercussions of any steps that could undermine security and stability or obstruct ceasefire efforts and regional initiatives supporting Yemen.
