Rights Group: Muscat Agreement a Humanitarian Step Toward the Release of All Detainees

Yemen Monitor – Newsroom:
The American Center for Justice has described the agreement announced in Muscat on a prisoner exchange in Yemen as an important humanitarian development in addressing one of the most complex files in the ongoing conflict. The center noted that the step comes within continued efforts to implement the provisions of the Stockholm Agreement and the principles of international humanitarian law.
In a statement, the center said the agreement could serve as a starting point for broader measures, stressing that any genuine progress requires the comprehensive release of all detainees and prisoners without restrictions or exceptions. It also emphasized the need to end the use of this humanitarian file as a tool for political bargaining, in addition to revealing the fate of all forcibly disappeared persons.
Earlier on Tuesday, a new agreement on a prisoner exchange was announced during the tenth round of consultations on this issue, hosted by the Omani capital, Muscat. Under the agreement, approximately 2,900 prisoners from various parties and frontlines are to be released.
