Yemen Monitor / Newsroom:
Citizens in the city of Taiz complained today, Saturday, of the price of a 20-liter gasoline jerrycan soaring to 24,000 riyals, along with a noticeable increase in the prices of several food commodities, despite the exchange rate remaining stable over the past few days.
The Director of the Industry and Trade Office in Taiz told “Yemen Monitor” that the fuel quantities currently available at the city’s stations are imported oil. He attributed the cause of the high selling prices to the continued obstruction by a tribal sector in Marib that is preventing the arrival of shipments allocated to the governorate. He explained that Marib oil is expected to arrive on Sunday, which is anticipated to bring prices back to their previous level.
In a related context, an employee at the Oil Company in Taiz confirmed that the price increase is due to station owners being forced to purchase fuel from the free market over the past few days because official supplies had been halted for about a week. He indicated that Taiz’s allocated quota will arrive on Sunday, which will lead to prices stabilizing once again.
