Source: Saudi Arabia Vows to Take Action Against Forces That Stormed Wadi Hadramawt

Yemen Monitor / Newsroom:

A well-informed source told Yemen Monitor that the Saudi delegation which arrived in Hadramawt following recent tensions affirmed that the Kingdom will take measures against the forces that stormed Wadi Hadramawt.

According to the source, Saudi Arabia led a local mediation effort that resulted in an agreement to halt the escalation in the Hadramawt plateau, signed in the presence of the governor, with the aim of restoring normalcy to the region.

The Saudi delegation also stressed, the source added, that it will not leave Hadramawt until the situation is fully stabilized.

Under the agreement, tribal forces are to withdraw from the vicinity of PetroMasila Company to a sufficient distance to ensure security. The deal also requires the exit of all military units that recently entered the governorate from outside Hadramawt, while allowing tribal forces to remain at a safe distance until the withdrawal is completed.

The agreement further stipulates the reintegration of tribal alliance fighters into official Yemeni state institutions to ensure the stability of government agencies.

Earlier, the official website of Hadramawt’s local authority quoted the chairman of the Saudi Special Committee as saying:
“We have come to affirm our support for the local authority in Hadramawt, renew our backing for Yemen’s legitimate government, and stand with all those working to strengthen stability in Yemen and Hadramawt in particular. We reject what has happened and demand the withdrawal of any military forces or security elements that entered Hadramawt from outside.”

He added that the Coalition stands firmly with Hadramawt’s security, which, he said, can only be achieved through the unity and cooperation of its people. He stressed that the primary battle for all parties remains confronting the Houthi coup militia.
