Yemeni Government: Saudi Delegation’s Visit to Hadramawt Aims to Restore Calm and Reorganize Security Priorities

Yemen Monitor / Newsroom:
Yemeni Information Minister Muammar al-Eryani said that the arrival of a high-level Saudi delegation, led by Lt. Gen. Mohammed bin Obaid Al-Qahtani — head of the Special Committee on Yemen — to Hadramawt comes amid the ongoing military tensions unfolding in the governorate.
Al-Eryani explained that the visit reflects “the sincere fraternal commitment of Saudi Arabia to supporting security and stability in Yemen and safeguarding the interests of Hadramawt’s residents.” He noted that the delegation began its mission by holding an expanded meeting with the Hadramawt governor to unify visions, reinforce de-escalation efforts, and discuss security and administrative files in a way that ensures the governorate’s stability and sets priorities for the coming phase.
The minister added that the visit carries a reassuring message to the people of Hadramawt, aiming to bring viewpoints closer, calm the situation, prevent any unacceptable military movements, and review the governorate’s service and development needs in order to restore the longstanding calm and stability.
Earlier, Lt. Gen. Al-Qahtani held a broad meeting with various Hadramawt community components, amid escalating tensions between the Hadramawt Tribes Alliance and the Southern Transitional Council (STC) forces backed by the UAE.
These developments coincide with reports from security sources stating that STC forces have taken control of large areas of Hadramawt in eastern Yemen.
According to the sources, STC forces extended their influence without armed confrontation over several regions — most notably the strategic city of Seiyun, the capital of Wadi Hadramawt — entering key facilities in the city, including the presidential palace and Seiyun International Airport.
Seiyun and several districts of Wadi Hadramawt had previously been under the control of the First Military Region, which is loyal to Yemen’s internationally recognized government. However, the region witnessed rapid developments in recent days following the deployment of STC forces into the governorate, along with the expansion of Hadramawt Tribes Alliance forces into oil-rich areas amid a struggle for influence in Yemen’s largest and wealthiest governorate.
