Yemeni Presidential Council Stresses Pivotal Role of Security and Intelligence Agencies in Protecting the State’s Legal Authority

Yemen’s Presidential Leadership Council (PLC) Chairman and Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, Dr. Rashad Mohammed Al-Alimi, emphasized on Saturday the central role of military, security, and intelligence agencies in safeguarding the state’s legal and political standing and in bolstering security and stability in the temporary capital, Aden, and other liberated governorates.
The remarks came during a meeting of the Higher Security Committee at the Ma’ashiq Palace, where the committee received briefings from Defense Minister and Committee Chairman Lt. Gen. Mohsen Al-Daari, along with heads of military and security agencies. The briefings covered the operational situation and readiness levels required to confront threats posed by Houthi militias and extremist groups, as well as efforts to thwart plans aimed at destabilizing state institutions and disturbing public peace.
The meeting discussed the latest security developments in several governorates and stressed the need for swift responses to emerging challenges. It also reviewed ongoing policies to improve the efficiency of security institutions and strengthen their capabilities in countering terrorist threats.
President Al-Alimi praised the achievements of the armed forces and security agencies in combating terrorism, organized crime, and smuggling operations, as well as implementing PLC directives to close illegal border crossings. He also commended the efforts of forces in Al-Jawf, Marib, Lahj, and Hadramout.
The committee reiterated the need to tighten security precautions, intensify surveillance of sleeper cells linked to the Houthis and extremist organizations, and ensure full protection of national and international institutions.
The meeting reaffirmed the state’s commitment to international counterterrorism cooperation, enhancing the Coast Guard’s capabilities to secure international maritime routes, and strengthening the presence of state institutions while upholding the constitutional rights and choices of citizens.
In attendance were Lt. Gen. Mahmoud Al-Subaihi, PLC adviser for defense and security affairs; Maj. Gen. Saleh Al-Maqaleh, director of the PLC chairman’s office; Maj. Gen. Ahmed Al-Oqili, director of the Supreme Commander’s office; and Brig. Gen. Hamdi Shukri, commander of the 7th Infantry Brigade.
