Yemeni Presidential Leadership Council chairman, Rashad Al-Alimi, discussed with the German Ambassador to the country, Thomas Schneider, the latest developments in the Yemeni situation—foremost among them the escalating Houthi threats to international peace and security backed by Iran, as well as the growing risks posed by the flow of weapons to the militia and its collaboration with terrorist groups.
During the meeting, Al-Alimi reaffirmed Yemen’s appreciation for Germany’s supportive stance toward the Yemeni people and its political leadership, as well as for the development programs provided by Berlin, which is considered one of the leading donors to the humanitarian response plan.
The two sides also reviewed progress in the economic reform program being implemented by the government and the Central Bank, and the challenges that require international support to strengthen state institutions and enable them to fulfill their basic obligations.
Al-Alimi reiterated the Council’s and the government’s commitment to the option of comprehensive and lasting peace, in accordance with national, regional, and international references, foremost among them Resolution 2216.
