Human Rights Center Warns of New Restrictions on the Press in Yemen

Yemen Monitor / Newsroom:
The American Center for Justice (ACJ) expressed its grave concern over the Southern Transitional Council (STC) submitting a complaint to the Public Prosecution against journalist Abdul Rahman Anees, and leveling the charge of “incitement” against him.
In a statement, the Center considered this step a dangerous indicator of escalating restrictions imposed on journalists, in a clear violation of the freedom of expression and opinion guaranteed under Yemeni laws and international conventions.
Abdul Rahman Burman, the Executive Director of the Center, stated that what journalist Abdul Rahman Anees is being subjected to constitutes a restriction on press freedom and contradicts the basic rights of journalists to carry out their work freely and without constraint.
Burman called for the judicial system not to be exploited for political or retaliatory purposes.
