Vehicle Fire in Arqoub Sparks Widespread Anger Due to Absence of Emergency Services in Abyan

Yemen Monitor/Newsroom:

A public transport bus caught fire in the Arqoub area of Abyan province, with the fire continuing to blaze for over four consecutive hours without any intervention from firefighting or ambulance teams.

Footage circulating on social media showed the fire persisting without any attempts to control it, highlighting a clear deficiency in emergency services in the region.

The incident sparked a wave of intense anger among residents, who strongly criticized the local authorities’ failure to provide the most basic essential services, such as ambulances and fire trucks.

Local activists confirmed that Abyan province completely lacks fire trucks, turning such incidents into human disasters with no possibility of swift intervention.

Citizens questioned the role of local authorities, whose presence, they claimed, is limited to collecting taxes and levies while failing to provide basic services to the people.

Observers expressed their dismay at the continued suffering of Abyan’s residents due to neglect and widespread corruption, amid urgent calls for intervention to save the province from the repeated collapse of vital services.
