Yemeni Defense Ministry Accuses Al-Qaeda of Dual ‘Terrorist’ Attack on Government Complex in Eastern Yemen

Yemen Monitor/Marib/Exclusive :

The Ministry of Defense of the Yemeni government announced on Tuesday evening that the attack targeting the government complex in Al-Mahfad district of Abyan governorate, in the eastern part of the country, was carried out by elements belonging to Al-Qaeda using two car bombs.

The ministry confirmed that its forces were able to repel the attack and kill all the attacking elements.

In a brief statement, the ministry clarified that the attack resulted in the death of four soldiers from the “First Support and Reinforcement Brigade” while they were confronting the attackers.

The ministry considered the attack a “failed attempt to destabilize security and stability” in the liberated areas, stressing that these “terrorist crimes will not deter it from continuing to combat and eliminate terrorism.”

Earlier, sources had reported that Al-Qaeda attack led to the death and injury of 23 soldiers.

The attack on the government complex in Al-Mahfad is a notable development, as Abyan, specifically its eastern areas such as Al-Mahfad, is considered a historical stronghold for Al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP).
