Al-Houthi Escalates Against UN Organizations in Yemen and Issues New Accusations
Yemen Monitor – Special Report:
The leader of the Houthi group, Abdulmalik al-Houthi, has accused the Security and Safety Officer of the World Food Programme (WFP) in Yemen of being behind the coordinates that led to the targeting of the Houthi government on August 28.
According to activists affiliated with the group, Ramzi Abdulqawi al-Fardi, the WFP’s Security and Safety Officer, is the individual accused by al-Houthi of providing the coordinates for the location of the meeting attended by members of their government.
Activists circulated news of the accusation and shared a blurred photo of “al-Fardi,” saying that Houthi security agencies are expected to release details of the accusation and present the evidence that Abdulmalik al-Houthi mentioned in his speech today.
The Houthi group had arrested “al-Fardi” on October 6 after raiding and searching his home accompanied by the female police unit (known as al-Zainabiyat). The search reportedly lasted six hours.
The group also launched a wave of arrests targeting employees of UN organizations, with the number of detained UN staff reaching 53 individuals held in Houthi prisons.
UN organizations and their staff in Houthi-controlled areas have been subjected to a widespread incitement campaign by Houthi media and affiliated activists, and the leader’s recent accusation further escalates this campaign.
Al-Houthi’s speech came after his group announced the death of their Chief of Staff, Mohammed Abdulkarim al-Ghumari, and the appointment of Yusuf al-Madani as his successor.
