UN Appoints Sudanese Diplomat as New Resident Coordinator in Yemen

Yemen Monitor/ Newsroom/ New York:

The United Nations has appointed seasoned Sudanese diplomat and humanitarian official, Adam Abdelmoula, as its new Resident Coordinator in Yemen. This move comes at a critical juncture that demands extensive experience in managing complex crises and coordinating relief and development efforts.

According to diplomatic sources familiar with the appointment process, Abdelmoula has previously held high-level leadership positions within the UN system, including serving as Resident Coordinator and Humanitarian Coordinator in Somalia and Syria.

Abdelmoula’s appointment comes at a crucial time for Yemen, as the UN moves forward amid a fragile truce, faces widespread and escalating humanitarian needs, and seeks to support long-term recovery efforts amid ongoing political fragmentation and economic collapse.

Upon confirmation of his appointment, Abdelmoula will succeed the outgoing Resident Coordinator. He will be responsible for coordinating the work of various UN agencies, liaising with national authorities, and ensuring the delivery of assistance and development programs across the country. His role will also include advocating for guaranteed humanitarian access, promoting human rights, and supporting peacebuilding initiatives in close coordination with international partners.
