“Yemeni Presidential Council” Affirms Commitment to Partnership and Consensus Amid Escalating Internal Disputes

Yemen Monitor / Newsroom:
The Yemeni Presidential Leadership Council (PLC) affirmed its full commitment to the principle of national partnership and consensus, based on the references of the transitional phase, foremost among them the declaration on the transfer of power. It stressed the importance of national unity and strengthening the state’s legal standing in confronting current challenges.
This came during an extraordinary meeting held today, Friday, by the Council, chaired by President Dr. Rashad Muhammad Al-Alimi, and attended by members Aidarous Al-Zubaidi, Sultan Al-Arada, Tariq Saleh, Abdul Rahman Al-Mahrami, and Abdullah Al-Alimi. Council members Othman Majali and Faraj Al-Bahsani participated via video call.
At the start of the meeting, the Council extended congratulations to the Yemeni people on the occasion of the 62nd anniversary of the October 14 Revolution, affirming loyalty to its national values and continuing efforts with various forces to restore state institutions and entrench the principles of the republican system and equal citizenship, according to the official Yemeni News Agency.
The meeting addressed the latest developments in economic and security conditions and government reforms. The Council praised the procedures taken by the government and the Central Bank to achieve monetary and financial stability, regular payment of state employee salaries, and improvement of public services within the National Recovery Plan. It noted that these efforts boosted international donor confidence and allowed the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to resume its activities in Yemen after an 11-year hiatus.
The Council affirmed its support for the government in continuing the implementation of the reform program and empowering it with its full constitutional mandate, which ensures the strengthening of state resources and improving citizens’ living conditions.
The PLC appreciated the recent Saudi support for the general budget, which contributes to enhancing economic stability and alleviating the suffering of citizens.
On the regional front, the Council welcomed the ceasefire agreement in the Gaza Strip sponsored by U.S. President Donald Trump, praising the efforts of Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Qatar, and all other participating countries in reaching this agreement. It expressed hope that this agreement would pave the way toward lasting peace that guarantees the establishment of an independent Palestinian state.
The Council also discussed the repercussions of regional developments on the local situation and adopted a number of measures to enhance coordination with regional and international partners to serve stability in Yemen and the region.
These affirmations come amid escalating disputes within the Presidential Leadership Council over the past weeks, following the issuance of decisions by Council member and head of the Southern Transitional Council (STC), Aidarous Al-Zubaidi, which included appointments in ministries and local authorities. Some members considered this an overreach of his powers, while his supporters described it as a correction of the partnership’s course.
These developments led to tension within the Council that necessitated urgent Saudi intervention to contain the crisis and re-establish the course of the political partnership, especially since the Council represents the highest legitimate authority in the country since its formation in April 2022, following the stepping down of former President Abdrabbuh Mansur Hadi and the transfer of his powers to the eight-member Council.
