The U.S. Condemns Raid on Al-Islah Party Women’s Event in Mukalla and Calls for Protection of Freedom of Expression

Yemen Monitor / Newsroom:

The United States of America expressed deep concern over the raid on a women’s event organized by the Yemeni Congregation for Reform (Al-Islah) party in the city of Mukalla, considering the assault a blatant violation of the right to freedom of expression.

In a statement issued by the U.S. Embassy, it noted that the raid occurs in the context of the continuing arrests and harassment of journalists, which undermines the freedom of the press and obstructs its vital role in promoting transparency and accountability.

The Embassy stated that these practices harm the national endeavors toward achieving dignity, freedom, and justice for the Yemeni people, affirming the USs’ commitment to supporting these goals.

Local sources reported that armed elements bearing the slogans of the Southern Transitional Council (STC) assaulted the women’s event, which was organized by the Women’s Department of the Al-Islah party in Al-Andalus Hall in Mukalla on Saturday evening, an act that sparked widespread condemnation.
