Guterres Calls for Halt to Military Escalation Between Israel and Houthis, Stresses Civilian Protection

Yemen Monitor/Newsroom:
UN Secretary-General António Guterres has expressed deep concern over the ongoing military escalation between Israel and the Houthi group, warning of a worsening situation in the region.
Guterres’ spokesperson, Stéphane Dujarric, clarified in a statement issued from New York that on September 24, the Houthis carried out a drone attack on the Israeli city of Eilat, resulting in injuries to twenty people, according to initial reports.
In a swift response, Israel launched airstrikes on the Yemeni capital, Sanaa, the following day. This resulted in the deaths of at least nine civilians, including children, and injuries to more than 150 people, as reported by official sources.
The Secretary-General affirmed that all parties are obligated to abide by international law to protect civilians and ensure their safety at all times. He called for the utmost restraint to halt the military escalation and protect innocent lives.
