4 Girls Drown Near IDP Camp in Marib

Yemen Monitor/ Newsroom:

Four girls drowned on Saturday inside a water barrier adjacent to the Al-Suwaida displacement camp in Marib governorate, northeastern Yemen, while attempting to fetch water.

The incident sparked a wave of grief and pain among the camp residents, who appealed to the local authorities to take swift action to secure water barriers and dangerous areas surrounding the displaced persons’ housing to protect children and women.

The displaced persons also called on the Executive Unit for IDP Camp Management to take urgent preventive measures and provide safe alternatives for obtaining water, warning of the recurrence of such tragedies in the absence of necessary precautions.

They further urged humanitarian and relief agencies to provide psychological and moral support to the victims’ families and mitigate the impact of the tragedy on the displaced community.
