Al-Alimi: Yemeni Expatriates Are a Pillar of The National Economy and Ambassadors for Yemen Abroad

Rashad Mohammed Al-Alimi, Chairman of Yemen’s Presidential Leadership Council, affirmed that Yemeni expatriates—particularly members of the diaspora in the US—represent a vital pillar in supporting the national economy and alleviating the people’s suffering under current circumstances. He praised their significant contributions and their ongoing role in bolstering the resilience of Yemenis.
This came during a broad meeting he held, along with Council member Dr. Abdullah Al-Alimi, with leaders and members of the Yemeni community in the US, in New York City, on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly meetings.
The Chairman emphasized that remittances from expatriates have helped stabilize the national currency and ease the humanitarian and economic crises caused by the Iran-backed Houthi militias. He stressed that the state gives special attention to the expatriates and is working to overcome any obstacles they face, including by improving the investment climate at home and welcoming their expertise and skills to contribute to reconstruction and development.
He further underlined that Yemeni expatriate serve as ambassadors for Yemen abroad, presenting its honorable image and rich culture to host societies. He pointed to the importance of strengthening solidarity among expatriates communities and preserving their national identity, as a reflection of national unity and determination to build a just, civil state based on equal citizenship and equal opportunities.
During the meeting, the President listened to a range of ideas and initiatives proposed by members of the Yemeni community in the US aimed at supporting institutional performance at home and strengthening advocacy for Yemen’s just cause in American and international forums. He expressed his deep appreciation for these initiatives, affirming that they reflect the expatriates’ strong sense of belonging to their homeland and commitment to its future.
