Number of UN Staff Detained by Houthis in Sana’a Rises to 18

Yemen Monitor / Newsroom:

The United Nations has announced an escalation in the crisis involving its staff in Yemen, as the number of employees detained by the Houthi group has risen to 18 following the arrest of seven more staff members and the storming of a UN facility in the capital, Sana’a, over the past two days.

UN spokesperson Stéphane Dujarric said the Houthis had seized the UNDP compound, while UNICEF and World Food Programme offices remain under the group’s control.

In a statement, the UN strongly condemned these actions, stressing the need to respect the sanctity of UN premises and ensure the safety of its staff. It called on the Houthis to immediately and unconditionally release all detainees.
