Flash Floods Devastate Jabal Habashi Villages, Claiming Lives and Causing Widespread Damage

Yemen Monitor / Newsroom/ Taiz:
Flash floods triggered by heavy rainfall swept through several villages in Jabal Habashi district, west of Taiz governorate, on Tuesday evening, leaving casualties, missing persons, and extensive property damage in their wake.
Local authorities confirmed the death of a resident, Fouad Bajash, while his daughter remains missing. Several others were injured as rockslides accompanied the torrents, compounding the disaster.
Initial assessments indicate significant losses to property and livelihoods. Floodwaters destroyed livestock and beehives, damaged three vehicles, and killed two cows. Agricultural lands were also severely affected, with crops and farmlands washed away.
“The rains that struck the villages of Al-Buraiha, Al-Arari, and Al-Maratibah caused widespread destruction, cutting off roads and devastating farms,” a local official reported.
The district further witnessed large-scale rockslides, partially damaging homes and sweeping away cultivated land. Many families have been left without shelter or a source of income.
In Wadi Al-Nashimah, located in Shamir area, the floods carried off a motorcycle, an underground water tank, and several wells along with their pumping systems. Residents, fearing further disasters, were forced to evacuate their homes.
Authorities have yet to provide a full damage assessment, but the disaster has already left a deep mark on the affected communities, raising urgent concerns over humanitarian needs in the area.
