Sharp Rise in Cholera Cases and Deaths in Taiz Sparks Concern

Yemen Monitor / Newsroom:
Taiz Governorate, in southwest Yemen, has recorded a noticeable increase in cholera cases this year, with health authorities announcing that deaths have risen to 9, while the number of infections has reached about 4,903 so far.
Tayseer Al-Samie, media officer at the Ministry of Public Health and Population office in Taiz, said in an official statement on Sunday that 282 of these cases were confirmed through laboratory tests, stressing that the outbreak continues amid the difficult health conditions facing the governorate.
Taiz is the most populous governorate in Yemen and suffers from severe weakness in its medical infrastructure, which has contributed to the growing spread of infectious diseases, including cholera, according to local health officials.
These figures highlight the health challenges facing Taiz, with an urgent need to strengthen medical and humanitarian support to curb the spread of cholera and alleviate the suffering of residents under the current conditions.
