120 African Migrants Arrive on Shabwa Coast in New Influx Wave

Yemen Monitor / Newsroom:
Police authorities in Shabwa Governorate, eastern Yemen, reported on Friday the arrival of 120 African migrants on the coast of Arqah in Rudum District, after being dropped off by a smuggling boat as part of a new wave of illegal migration to Yemeni shores.
Security sources explained that all the migrants were Ethiopian nationals, and all of them men, confirming that necessary security measures had been taken to address these influxes in a way that maintains security and stability and reduces associated risks and negative consequences.
This comes just days after seven Ethiopian migrants died of hunger and thirst at sea off the coast of Shabwa when their boat broke down, while the death toll from another boat sinking off the coast of Abyan Governorate exceeded 90 migrants—a tragic incident for which search and rescue operations have been ongoing since August 3.
