Taiz… Public Protests over Deteriorating Services and Widespread Corruption

Yemen Monitor / Newsroom:

On Saturday, dozens of activists staged a massive protest in front of the governorate headquarters on Jamal Street in Taiz, expressing their rejection of the deteriorating conditions afflicting the city.

The event was attended by both young people and women, who carried strong slogans criticizing the administrative and financial failures of the local authorities, stressing that the decline in basic services now threatens residents’ lives and deepens their daily suffering.

Protesters accused the local authorities of being unable to meet the city’s needs under the control of the legitimate government, especially amid the continued outages of the state electricity supply, a severe water shortage affecting citizens, and soaring prices that are burdening families.

According to local sources, the demonstration reflects growing public discontent over rampant corruption within the city’s institutions and the deterioration of infrastructure, which has seen no notable improvement in recent times — prompting residents to take to the streets to demand better living conditions.
