Hadhramaut: Army Forces Disperse Sit-in in Tarim, Injuries Reported Among Protesters

Yemen Monitor / Newsroom:

An army-led operation to disperse a sit-in in the city of Tarim, Hadhramaut early Thursday morning resulted in several injuries among protesters, following a military intervention to reopen a main road that demonstrators had blocked with burning tires and concrete barriers.

Local sources reported that a large force from the First Military Region intervened using force to break up the sit-in and remove the barriers, which led to injuries among the protesters amid ongoing tension in the area.

This move comes amid growing public anger over continued power outages and worsening economic and living conditions. Several citizens expressed their rejection of the excessive force used by the military against the demonstrators.

Sources noted that the army aimed to reopen the vital road, which sees significant traffic, in an effort to ease tensions and ensure civilian movement, despite continued dissatisfaction with the city’s public services.
