Educational Meeting in Marib Approves 15% Reduction in Private School Fees

Yemen Monitor / Newsroom:
A broad educational meeting held on Tuesday in Marib Governorate, chaired by Deputy Minister of Education Ali Al-Aabbab, approved a 15% reduction in tuition fees at private schools in the governorate. The decision comes in line with the improvement in the exchange rate of the Yemeni riyal and in response to recent economic developments.
The meeting was attended by leaders from the governorate’s Education Office, the Marib City Directorate, and representatives of private schools. Discussions focused on the current state of private education, ways to develop it, and strengthening partnerships with the public sector to positively impact the quality and outcomes of the educational process.
The deputy minister called on private school administrations to respond positively to the economic changes and uphold their social responsibilities by committing to implement the fee reduction and considering the living conditions of parents amid the ongoing challenges faced by Yemeni families.
Al-Aabbab explained that the decision is part of government directives aimed at alleviating the financial burdens on citizens, stressing that the improved exchange rate necessitates a review of tuition fees to strike a balance between educational quality and people’s economic capabilities.
He emphasized the Ministry of Education’s commitment to supporting private education as a key partner in the educational process and an important contributor to expanding access to education and improving its quality—especially given the challenges Marib faces due to ongoing waves of displacement.
The Deputy Minister also stressed the importance of joint efforts among all stakeholders to ensure the stability of the educational process and to create a safe and integrated learning environment that meets students’ needs and the aspirations of the local community.
