Army Fires to Disperse Protesters in Al-Qatn, Hadhramaut

Yemen Monitor – Newsroom:

Tensions flared on Saturday evening in Al-Qatn District, Hadhramaut Governorate, eastern Yemen, after army forces intervened to disperse protesters who had blocked the international highway. Live ammunition was used to clear the road and allow stranded commercial trucks to pass.

Local sources reported that dozens of goods-laden trucks were halted for hours at the entrance to Tarim District due to escalating protests in recent days over worsening living and service conditions.

Several citizens told Belqees TV that they are determined to continue their popular movement until all demands are met—chief among them being improved public services and holding officials accountable for violations.

Protesters also called for an urgent investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death of young man Mohammed Yadin and for the perpetrators to be brought to justice. They expressed frustration over the lack of government solutions, the ongoing electricity crisis, and the soaring prices of essential goods, describing the situation as marked by “official indifference and a lack of vision to address citizens’ suffering.”
