Armed Attack on Livestock Carrier Off Yemen’s Coast in Unattributed Incident

Yemen Monitor – Newsroom:

A livestock carrier flying the Comoros flag was subjected to an armed attack by unidentified assailants aboard a wooden boat off the coast of Yemen in the early hours of Thursday morning. The UK-based maritime security firm Ambrey Analytics confirmed that the attack took place near the waters east of the Hunish Islands, approximately 30 nautical miles northwest of the port of Mocha.

In an official statement, the company said the attackers fired small arms at the vessel as it sailed northward. Two explosions were reported in very close proximity to the targeted ship, raising serious concerns about maritime security in the area.

Sources indicated that the incident is not believed to be linked to the Houthi group, adding further mystery to the identity and motives of the attackers amid rising tensions along Yemen’s coastline.

The incident comes as Yemen continues to grapple with maritime security challenges that are impacting trade and shipping in the Red Sea. Strategic areas like the Port of Mocha and the Hunish Islands are considered highly sensitive zones. Reuters, citing Ambrey, reported that the attack occurred in a vital area with heavy commercial traffic.

According to information released by the British security firm, the incident has heightened fears of increasing maritime attacks in the region, underscoring the urgent need to bolster security measures to protect commercial vessels and cargo carriers.
