Russian Sailor Injured in Houthi Attack on “Eternity Sea” Receives Treatment in Yemen

Yemen Monitor – Moscow – Exclusive:

A Russian sailor who was aboard a Greek cargo ship sunk by Houthi militants is currently receiving medical treatment in Yemen, according to a report by Russia’s official news agency on Thursday.

RIA Novosti identified the sailor as Alexei Galakionov, one of several crew members captured by the Houthi group following the sinking of the ship Eternity Sea. The agency quoted a senior source stating that Galakionov, who sustained injuries during the attack, is in stable and improving condition, as also reported by Reuters.

Earlier maritime security sources reported that 10 crew members—eight sailors and two security guards—had been rescued and transferred to Saudi Arabia. According to the same sources, all crew members were Filipino nationals except for one Russian.

The Iran-aligned Houthi group reportedly sank the Liberian-flagged Eternity Sea, which was carrying 22 crew members and three armed guards, using naval drones and rocket-propelled projectiles over two consecutive days.

Fifteen individuals from the vessel remain missing, and the search efforts to locate them have been officially called off.

The exact number of crew members captured by the Houthis remains unclear, but sources suggest that, in addition to the Russian sailor, five others may also be held captives.
