Yemeni Presidential Leadership Council Chairman Rashad Al-Alimi declared that economic and service-related issues remain the biggest challenges facing both the Council and the government, affirming that these issues continue to be a top priority.
This came during his meeting on Sunday with the Chairman of the Consultation and Reconciliation Commission, Mohammed Al-Ghaithi, and his deputies, in the presence of Economic Team Head Hussam Al-Sharjabi and representatives of political parties and components, against the backdrop of escalating regional tensions.
The meeting reviewed recent local, regional, and international developments, as well as efforts toward financial and administrative reforms. It focused on the government’s essential obligations, including ensuring continued payment of salaries, securing the supply of basic goods and imports, improving public services, and mitigating the worsening humanitarian crisis caused by Houthi attacks on oil facilities and shipping vessels.
Al-Alimi reaffirmed his leadership’s commitment to the regular payment of salaries and the sustainability of vital services such as electricity and energy. He also presented an overview of the potential impacts of regional escalation on Yemen’s security, economy, and humanitarian conditions.
The president outlined the outcomes of his recent consultations with the government, the Central Bank, and the Crisis Management Committee, which aimed to develop policies to address the budget deficit and strengthen the national currency.
He also highlighted recent security achievements, including the foiling of plots by “terrorist cells” linked to the Houthis in several governorates. Al-Alimi praised the efforts of the armed forces and their readiness to deter Houthi threats and continue the path toward “comprehensive liberation.”
Al-Alimi emphasized the need for national unity and overcoming internal divisions to face challenges and fulfill the people’s aspirations for restoring state institutions, security, and development. He reaffirmed Yemen’s steadfast position on the regional escalation in a way that serves the Yemeni people’s cause and the restoration of legitimacy.
On the economic front, the Head of the Economic Team presented an assessment of financial and monetary indicators, analyzing the impact of halted oil exports and rising shipping costs on the cost of living.
