Yemeni Prime Minister, Salem Saleh Bin Brik, has directed the Ministry of Telecommunications and Information Technology and its affiliated bodies to develop an urgent plan to implement projects aimed at developing the telecommunications and internet infrastructure in the interim capital, Aden, and the liberated areas. This includes improving service efficiency, expanding coverage, and enhancing competitiveness and performance quality.
This directive came during a meeting held by the Prime Minister today, Sunday, in Aden, with the ministry’s leadership and representatives of its affiliated institutions and companies. The meeting discussed reports on completed and ongoing projects, efforts to overcome challenges facing this vital sector, and plans to encourage investment and partnerships with local and international sectors.
In his speech during the meeting, the Prime Minister stated: “The time is right to work in all directions to achieve tangible accomplishments in the telecommunications sector, through integrated efforts, activating available resources, and utilizing technical and human capabilities to keep pace with the rapid developments in this field.”
He emphasized the need to develop the institutional performance of the ministry and its affiliated companies to align with the government’s digital transformation initiatives and meet the aspirations of citizens and service sectors.
He also announced the government’s full support for the Ministry of Telecommunications’ plans, stressing the importance of overcoming difficulties, providing an attractive regulatory and legislative environment for investment, and highlighting the adoption of transparency and efficiency principles in project implementation.
Bin Brik directed the development of a time-bound executive matrix that includes priorities for urgent interventions to improve service levels and upgrade infrastructure, while encouraging investment partnerships within a comprehensive vision aimed at building a modern and sustainable telecommunications sector in Yemen.
