Fire Destroys 5 Displacement Camps in Marib

Yemen Monitor / Marib / Newsroom:

A fire broke out on Monday in one of the displacement camps in the city of Marib, completely destroying five shelters, including the residence of the camp director. No injuries were reported among the displaced residents.

In a statement, the Executive Unit for IDP Camps Management in the governorate said the fire erupted in the Al-Tadamun Camp – Al-Naseem Sector, causing severe damage, including the loss of the camp director’s shelter.

The unit confirmed that the affected families were left homeless after their homes and belongings were entirely consumed by the fire.

The Executive Unit called on humanitarian and relief organizations to urgently intervene by providing emergency assistance, including appropriate shelter, food, and medical supplies. It also stressed the need to enhance safety and prevention measures within the camps.

The unit warned that the continued lack of fire-resistant and weather-resilient housing is exacerbating the suffering of displaced people and endangering their lives.

It also reported that since the beginning of the year, it has documented 66 fire incidents in the governorate’s camps, resulting in the death of one person and injuries to 11 others, most of whom were women and children, in addition to significant material losses and the displacement of dozens of families.
