Yemeni Journalists Syndicate Condemns Houthi Channel’s Abuse of Yemeni Female Anchors
Yemen Monitor / Newsroom:
The Yemeni Journalists Syndicate has condemned what it described as “unprofessional and offensive coverage” aired by Al-Hawiya TV, a channel affiliated with the Houthi group, targeting several female anchors working at Belqees TV and Yemen Shabab TV. The syndicate called the broadcast a blatant violation of journalistic ethics and a deliberate smear campaign that intrudes upon the personal lives of the journalists.
In a statement, the syndicate expressed full solidarity with the affected journalists and urged the judicial authorities to investigate the incident and take the necessary legal action against those responsible.
The Syndicate stated that the channel’s actions reflect a moral and ethical collapse and contradict media responsibility and professional principles. It noted that this incident is not the first of its kind, as campaigns of abuse against female journalists by individuals it described as “impersonating journalists” have repeatedly occurred.
Furthermore, the syndicate called on all media outlets in Yemen to adopt codes of conduct and charters of honor that uphold rights and freedoms and foster a professional and ethical media environment.
