Over 100 Aid Organizations Launch Urgent Appeal to Save Yemen from Devastating Humanitarian Crisis

Yemen Monitor/Newsroom:

116 international and local organizations, including UNICEF, OCHA, FAO, the World Food Programme, and Oxfam, issued a joint appeal on Tuesday to rescue Yemen from a rapidly deteriorating humanitarian situation. This urgent call comes amidst escalating humanitarian needs and dwindling financial support.

A statement released by these organizations warned, “Yemenis face what could be the worst year since the crisis erupted a decade ago, with the suffering of the population exacerbated by the ongoing conflict, economic collapse, and severe climate challenges.”

The statement highlighted that reduced financial support has led to a scarcity of aid, while airstrikes have resulted in hundreds of civilian casualties and the destruction of vital facilities. It also cautioned that the 2025 Humanitarian Response Plan has received less than 10% of the required funding, hindering the delivery of assistance to millions in need, including displaced persons, refugees, women, and children.

The appeal urged the international community to “enhance development support to save communities from total collapse, ensure access to essential services, and create sustainable economic opportunities.”

This appeal was made on the eve of a high-level meeting regarding Yemen, scheduled to take place on Wednesday, May 21, in Brussels, under the patronage of the EU.

Yemen is experiencing one of the world’s longest humanitarian crises due to a war that has lasted for nearly ten years between government forces and Houthi militias, forcing most of the population to rely on aid for survival.
