Government Forces Foil Attempt to Smuggle Rare Yemeni Artifacts

Yemen Monitor/Newsroom:

Forces of the Giants Brigades, affiliated with the Yemeni government, thwarted on Thursday a dangerous smuggling operation of 24 rare artifacts across Bab al-Mandab Strait towards the Horn of Africa countries, during a routine inspection that uncovered a complex camouflage attempt.

The Media Center of the Giants Brigades explained in an official statement that a military unit belonging to Brigade 17 managed to seize the artifacts inside a vehicle during a thorough inspection at a security checkpoint in Bab al-Mandab, where the pieces were professionally hidden inside a box surrounded by car spare parts in an attempt to conceal them.

The statement indicated the arrest of two individuals involved in the operation, after it was discovered that the artifacts were carefully placed among dozens of other boxes for the purpose of deception, before the forces found the real contents and took measures to seize them.

The Giants Brigades reiterated that this crime constitutes a direct targeting of Yemen’s identity and ancient cultural heritage, stressing the continuation of their efforts to protect the national heritage and confront any attempts to smuggle artifacts that threaten the country’s memory and its civilizational history.
