Israeli Defense Minister Threatens to Assassinate Houthi Leader

Yemen Monitor / Newsroom:
Israeli Defense Minister Yisrael Katz has threatened to assassinate the leader of the Houthi group, Abdul-Malik al-Houthi, if the Houthis continue targeting “Israel.”
In a post on the platform “X,” Katz stated that the Israeli military had inflicted severe damage on Yemeni ports under Houthi control, adding that Sana’a International Airport “remains destroyed.”
He added, “If the Houthis continue launching missiles toward Israel, they will receive painful blows,” before directly threatening: “Just as we dealt with Mohammed Deif and Yahya Sinwar in Gaza, with Hassan Nasrallah in Beirut, and Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran, we will hunt down and assassinate Abdul-Malik al-Houthi in Yemen.”
In this context, the Israeli newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth quoted a security official saying that about 20 fighter jets participated in the recent attacks, noting that the strikes aim to impose a “naval blockade” on the Houthi group.
The Israeli channel Kan also quoted a security source stating: “The goal of attacking Yemen’s ports is to impose a blockade on the Houthis.”
Meanwhile, Israel’s Army Radio quoted a military source saying: “Israel is working to enforce a strict naval blockade on the Houthis through attacks targeting their ports.”
These developments come just days after Israel announced it had struck Sana’a International Airport and rendered it unserviceable, although the Houthi group later confirmed that operations at the airport had resumed.
