Yemeni Prime Minister Salem bin Brik met on Thursday with the Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), Jasem Al-Budaiwi, in the interim capital, Aden. The two sides discussed enhancing Gulf support for Yemen in facing current challenges, securing international maritime navigation, and backing efforts to restore state institutions from the Houthi coup.

During the meeting, Al-Budaiwi renewed the GCC countries’ congratulations to the Prime Minister on earning the government’s confidence, affirming the Gulf states’ support for Yemen in urgent economic and service-related areas, as well as their commitment to recovery plans and efforts to combat the deteriorating living conditions.

The discussions also addressed mechanisms for aligning Gulf aid with the government’s priorities, especially in light of the Houthi attacks on oil facilities and their impact on the economy.

Prime Minister bin Brik praised the pivotal role of the GCC in mobilizing international support for Yemen, stressing the need for cooperation between Gulf partners and development allies to confront economic and security challenges.

The meeting also covered joint efforts to restore state institutions, counter Iranian support for the Houthis, and bolster maritime security.
