Sana’a Airport General Director: Losses from Israeli Bombing Exceed $500 Million

Yemen Monitor/Newsroom:

The General Director of Sana’a Airport, which is under the control of the Houthis, Khaled Al-Shayef, revealed that the initial losses resulting from the Israeli airstrikes on the airport amounted to about half a billion dollars, with final damage assessment operations still underway.

Al-Shayef explained that the attacks resulted in the destruction of 6 aircraft that were parked at the airport, including 3 aircraft belonging to Yemenia Airways, which had been detained by the Houthi group for about a year due to the crisis with the Yemeni government.

He added that the bombing included the firing of 4 highly destructive missiles that mainly targeted the airport runway, leading to its complete disruption. He also pointed out that Yemenia Airways only has one remaining aircraft that was in Amman.

Al-Shayef indicated that there are efforts to temporarily resume operations at the airport, but its full rehabilitation and the restoration of its previous activity will take a long time.

It is worth noting that the Israeli occupation forces carried out a series of intense airstrikes on Sana’a Airport yesterday, leading to its almost complete destruction and putting it out of service.
