Urgent UN Appeal to Save Yemen from Humanitarian Catastrophe

Yemen Monitor / Newsroom:
The United Nations has expressed deep concern over the humanitarian situation in Yemen, stating that the Yemeni people are trapped in a cycle of horrific violence.
In a press briefing held in New York, UN spokesperson Stéphane Dujarric emphasized that while available funding cannot resolve Yemen’s political crisis, it can help communities survive and stabilize.
Dujarric also voiced the organization’s concern over ongoing airstrikes targeting civilians and infrastructure, including healthcare facilities. He called on all parties to the conflict to abide by international humanitarian law.
He noted that UN humanitarian partners are intensifying their efforts to meet the growing needs resulting from the recent airstrikes on the city of Hudaydah, where more than 20 strikes have been conducted since Monday.
The spokesperson added that the UN is monitoring continued missile and drone attacks by the Houthis toward Israel and in the Red Sea, urging the group to halt these assaults immediately.
Dujarric revealed that the UN has received updates on the damage caused by the airstrikes, including the death of five children in Sana’a. He also mentioned damage to a hospital in Al-Bayda governorate, where an emergency care program was being provided.
He confirmed that funding for the Yemen Humanitarian Response Plan remains critically low, with only 8% of the required amount received—less than $205 million out of a $2.5 billion appeal.
Dujarric stressed, “The Yemeni people need urgent support, and we cannot do more with less money.”
