Pentagon Official: We Are Reviewing Reports of Civilian Casualties in Yemen

Yemen Monitor/Newsroom:

A senior US official at the Department of Defense (Pentagon) confirmed that US forces are aware of reports of civilian casualties resulting from their military operations in Yemen, noting that these allegations are “taken seriously.”

The official, speaking to Al Jazeera news network on condition of anonymity, said that Washington has a “mechanism to review these reports,” without providing further details about the nature of this mechanism or its potential outcomes.

He added that US military operations against the Houthi group in Yemen are “making progress,” emphasizing that they have resulted in the destruction of “command sites, weapons manufacturing facilities, and storage for advanced weapons.” However, the official declined to provide specific details about these operations or the resulting casualties.

On Monday, the Ministry of Health in the capital Sana’a stated that the death toll from the US bombing of Froua popular market and neighborhood had risen to 12 dead and 30 injured.

In an unprecedented US military escalation, the CentCom announced the execution of 300 raids since mid-March on Yemen, while the Ansar Allah (Houthi) group estimates the figure to be around 900 raids targeting multiple areas in the country.

The scope of targeting has expanded to include 12 Yemeni governorates, including Sana’a, Saada, Hodeidah, Marib, Al-Bayda, and Dhamar, targeting air bases, ports, economic facilities, and command centers.
